How can I join?
Join at any meeting, Friday from 12.30-1.30, or Tuesday 5.00-6.00 in the Otago Room of Clubs and Socs (No meetings during exams or university holidays).
How much is membership and what do I get?
Membership is $20 for the whole year, or $15 for one semester. This pays for free gear hire, a copy of our yearbook Antics and 15% off at our sponsor gear shop, Bivouac Outdoor (near the Octagon end of George St). From time to time the OUTC exec will also donate a small proportion of this membership fee to projects that will enhance the facilities or the environment that we are so lucky to tramp in.
How often are there trips?
There are trips of some kind every week. They are organised by club members. These include Wednesday Walkies (easy evening strolls), weekend tramps (easy to hard), skiing, parties and rock climbing missions to Long Beach. They are organised over the email list or at meetings and are run at cost – a typical weekend trip costs $50-80 (depending on driving distance).
How fit do you need to be to go tramping?
There are trips to suit all fitness levels. You’ll get an idea of how hard a trip is by talking to the trip organiser.
What will I need?
For every trip, you’ll need some of your own equipment: walking boots, a pack (65l or more), a sleeping bag, a waterproof jacket, and warm clothing (no cotton). We don’t have any of this for hire, but sleeping bags and packs can be rented from Unipol at the Forsyth Barr stadium near campus and boots can be rented from R’n'R Sport. A link to a thorough gear list can be found on the right of this page.
