Muesli Mag - Semester 1 2019



Welcome to the Muesli Mag for 2019. This is a guide to all the major club events planned for the semester. Trips and events will also be advertised through our email list, website and Facebook. The $20 ($25 for full year) membership cost gets you free club gear hire, a copy of the annual yearbook, Antics, and 15% off at Bivouac Outdoor on George St. Any questions can be answered by a senior member, in particular Charlotte at president@outc.org.nz.

Friday 22nd Feb / Tues 26th Feb

Tramping Club meetings, held in the gear room located to your right as you enter the OUSA Clubs and Societies building (5.00-6.00pm on Tuesdays, 12:30-1:30pm on Fridays). Meetings will continue every Tuesday and Friday until the end of Semester (meetings are not compulsory, they’re for people to sign up, rent gear, or come and have a chat to us).

Tues 26th Feb

Paradise trip pre-meet at 7.00pm in Burns 2 lecture theatre. Bushball is our first club trip of the semester, to the Wanaka region. You must go to this meeting to get a place on the trip.

Fri 1st March evening - Sun 3rd March

Paradise trip - an awesome weekend away in Paradise (yes this is the actual name of the place!). Groups split up for day trips on Saturday then return to camp for a cooking competition and late night festivities. We wake up Sunday and swim in beautiful Lake Sylvan before heading back to Dunedin via Queenstown. *To go on this trip you must attend the Pre-meet on Tuesday.*

Bivouac Gear Buy Night (date TBC) - 6.00-8.00pm. Meet at Bivouac Outdoor on George St (just north of the Octagon), and make sure to bring your membership card to get 25% off tramping/climbing gear.

Tues 5th March

OUTC Happy Hour will start up! Meet us at the Bog at 6.00pm for discounted beer, free hot chips and some quality chat.Wed 6th March - River Crossing Course There will be a River Crossing course on Paradise (on Sunday) but for all those that can’t go on Paradise, on Wed (6th) evening we will run another River Crossing Course in the Taieri River at Outram Glen. Free. *You must attend one of the River Crossing courses to go to Fiordland*.

Sun 10th March

Bethune’s Kiwi trip

A Sunday afternoon, particularly for kiwis who are new to the club (1st and 2nd years) to meet some other like-minded trampers and get to know more of what the club’s about. An afternoon walk to Bethune’s Gully, followed by a barbeque.

Tues 12th March

Fiordland Tramp pre-meet 7.00pm, Burns 2 lecture theatre.

You must go to this if you want to come on our epic Fiordland Trip.

Fri 16th March evening - Sun 18th March

Fiordland weekend tramp. An amazing and often challenging weekend tramp somewhere in the northern part of stunning Fiordland National Park, centred by Milford Sound. See glaciers, mountain parrots (kea) and stunning bush. Trips to suit all experience levels. *Must attend the pre-meet on Tues and have done our River Crossing Course*.

Fri 12th April evening - Sun 14th April

Makarora Trip. A great option for those unable to make the first two trips of the year. Spent in the Makarora region, above Wanaka, trips of all abilities will head off for a couple of days*Sat 18th May - Sun 19th May - TWALK – A super fun 24hr orienteering event hosted by CUTC*

OUTC Clothing – We have merch! This includes buffs, patches, hoodies, t-shirts, shorts, fleeces, beanies, and more. Come to our meetings to try out sizes and make an order, or shop through our website www.outc.org.nz/merch.

Thursday Bivouac trail running sessions - For the people that love to run, every Thursday night a squad heads for the trails. A different one every week. This is advertised on the “Bivouac Dunedin Trail Runners” Facebook page.

Wednesday rock climbing - Every week we head to long beach for a climb! We supply all of gear and the carpooling is arranged by the climbers. Meeting place is our gear room in the OUSA building. More information is supplied through the “OUTC Rock climbers” Facebook group.

Antics

Been on any trips recently? We’d love to hear about them! Antics is our annual journal filled with stories submitted by trampers. For more information email antics@outc.org.nz.

Mihiwaka trapping line

This year we’ve taken on a trapping line in Mihiwaka, a short drive out of Dunedin. We’ll need people to regularly check the traps so if you’re interested email president@outc.org.nz. No experience required!
